Physical Properties

1. Density: The density of both SS 310 and SS 310S is approximately 7.9 g/cm³. This contributes to their substantial weight, giving a feeling of robustness and stability.
2. Melting Range: These steel grades have a melting range of 1400-1450°C. This high melting point makes them suitable for applications that demand resistance to high temperatures.
3. Thermal Conductivity: The thermal conductivity of Stainless Steel 1.4841 is around 14.2 W/m·K at 100°C, and that of SS 310S is similar. This property enables the efficient transfer of heat through the material, which is vital for various thermal applications.
4. Coefficient of Expansion: SS 310/310S has a coefficient of thermal expansion of about 16.0 x 10^-6 /°C. This tells us how the material expands or contracts with temperature changes, which is essential for components that experience drastic temperature fluctuations.
5. Electrical Resistivity: The electrical resistivity ofASME SA312 Stainless Steel TP310/310S is approximately 1.20 μΩ·m, making them poor conductors of electricity.

Mechanical Properties

1. Tensile Strength: Stainless Steel 310 and Stainless Steel 310S have an impressive tensile strength, approximately 515 MPa, which indicates the ability of the material to withstand substantial longitudinal stress without deformation.
2. Yield Strength: The yield strength for Stainless Steel S31000 is around 205 MPa, and for Jindal SS 310S, slightly higher. This denotes the amount of stress the material can endure without permanent deformation.
3. Elongation: Both Stainless Steel 310/310S have an elongation percentage of about 40%. This measures how much the material can be stretched before it breaks, reflecting its ductility.
4. Hardness: The hardness of these steel grades falls between 89 and 95 HRB. This parameter provides insights into the resistance of the material to scratching and wear.

Chemical Properties

• Chromium: 24-26% - Provides excellent corrosion resistance.
• Nickel: 19-22% - Enhances ductility and resistance to oxidation.
• Manganese: Up to 2% - Adds to the material's wear resistance.
• Silicon: Up to 1.5% - Increases strength.
• Carbon: ASTM A312 TP 310 Stainless Steel  contains up to 0.25%, while ASTM A312 TP 310S Stainless Steel  contains a maximum of 0.08%, rendering the latter more resistant to sensitization and intergranular corrosion.
