Mechanical Properties

1. Tensile Strength: Stainless Steel 304 typically exhibits a tensile strength of about 515 MPa, whereas the 304L variant may be slightly lower due to the reduced carbon content.
2. Yield Strength: For Stainless Steel S30403 the yield strength is roughly 205 MPa, signifying the stress at which the material begins to deform plastically.
3. Elongation: This refers to the ability of the material to stretch without breaking. SS 304/304L has an elongation percentage of around 40%, allowing for good ductility.
4. Hardness: On the Brinell scale, the hardness of SS 304/304L typically ranges from 123 to 147.

Chemical Composition

• Chromium (Cr): 18-20%, responsible for corrosion resistance.
• Nickel (Ni): 8-12%, enhancing the overall strength and ductility.
• Carbon (C): A maximum of 0.08% for SS 304 and a maximum of 0.03% for SS 304L.
• Manganese (Mn): Up to 2%.
• Silicon (Si): Up to 1%.
